There has to be another way! I spent a year working on on my short, with the goal being the NBC universal Short Cuts Film Festival; Today I was informed that this goal was not met. Granted, The trailer for Morgan made it into the One Forest film festival and that is a great festival, but its not NBC universal, the big studio that makes many of the block buster films that people flock to see.
Here's another thing, this NBC film festival was free to enter, no fee's it was a huge opportunity for someone like myself. Many people say I'm talented, and yet those with the Key to the gate won't let me near it. At the end of the day Hollywood is designed to keep you out, and festivals look more and more like scams. While this one was free, fees can go from 30 to 60 dollars per festival and you still won't get in, so they take your money and wish you luck else where with your film.
I look at so many people who want to be rich and famous and expect to be rich and famous, but don't even realize that they have you right where they want you, wishing, hoping and dreaming to your last breath, and then you never make it. I have looked at what Hollywood puts out and the quality of the product, its high even if in its essence a movie is no good, technically its still a marvel, you can't deny that! some folks say well we don't have the money to put out a quality of product at that level so lets just hope they see the potential in us, Bull Shit!!! they don't care if you have potential, the quality of the product must be outstanding regardless of if you have the money or not!!!
Then again, some people just get lucky, I think at this point thats what its all based around, LUCK! there is no strategy or plan that will take you to hollywood, no matter how good you might be. Even if you know somebody that knows somebody.
So why not give up, why not just quit? because you can't see yourself doing anything else... Because there is money to be made outside of Hollywood, there's advertising, promotions, events etc that need to be captured on video.
"Because the more times you hear no, the closer you come to hearing yes"
In any case I'm done with festivals and I'm done with Short films as far as my writing and making anymore of my own goes. the plan was writing a great short, make it, get into a festival, get noticed, get funded, make a feature, see what happens at the box office.. That plan is a wash, might as well, come up with a new idea. Peace.
